Gulf Coast & Galveston County

Living in Texas City

A working bay city with the world's longest fishing pier and a new master-planned heart: honest value, strong Gulf character.

Texas City is the bay's working backbone, a deep-water port city on the western shore of Galveston Bay, and in recent years it has added a genuinely beautiful side: Lago Mar, a lakefront master-planned community that has turned heads across the county. It is a place of real industry and real value, of the Texas City Dike's legendary fishing pier, of sunrise over the bay, and of families who want affordability without giving up the coast.

Inside Texas City

What neighborhoods make up Texas City?

Every community here is really a handful of neighborhoods with their own personality. Here is the short tour, the way I would give it in the car.

Lago Mar

The community putting the city on the map: a 12-acre lake, resort-style amenities, and newer construction that feels like a getaway.

Mainland Park

An established, family-friendly pocket of single-family homes near schools and parks.

Historic downtown & traditional blocks

Older homes and deep roots near the city's historic core.

Bayfront pockets

Homes and lots close to the Dike and the bay, popular with boaters and fishermen.

Getting around

What is the commute really like?

Texas City is about 40 miles south of downtown Houston on I-45, roughly 40 to 50 minutes on a typical day; Galveston Island is 15 to 20 minutes south, Hobby Airport about 30 to 40 minutes north, and Clear Lake and League City about 20 to 25. The port, refineries, and Island hospitals anchor a large employment base, so many residents work within minutes of home and weekend at the water.

Schools

Which schools serve Texas City?

Texas City ISD serves Texas City and, since 2016, neighboring La Marque as well, a consolidated district that keeps mainland families on one stable system from elementary through high school. The newer master-planned communities like Lago Mar feed a bright set of local schools, and the district has deep roots in the community. As always, zoned campuses depend on your exact address.

Daily life

What is daily life like in Texas City?

The Texas City Dike is the star: a 5.3-mile man-made pier that juts into Galveston Bay, celebrated as the world's longest fishing pier, with bait stands, picnic tables, and kiteboarders in the shallows all summer. Lago Mar's lakefront community center anchors a newer side of city life with pools and parks, the shopping and dining along the coast highway between Houston and Galveston is minutes away, and Island beaches are just down the road.

The honest part: no neighborhood is perfect for everyone. The parks, the commute, the schools, the pace, all of it deserves a real conversation, in English or Spanish, at whatever pace you need.
